The GMMP is the largest and longest running research and advocacy initiative on fair and balanced gender representation in the news media and has been ongoing since 1995, 2000 and 2005. Coordinated by WACC, a global network of communicators promoting communication for social change, in collaboration with data analyst Media Monitoring Africa, the study has been supported from the United Nations Development Fund for Women.
Volunteers from women’s rights organizations, media associations, academia, etc., across the world collaborated in a one-day global research on gender in their local news media on 10th November 2009.
The GMMP research study in India was coordinated by Ms. Ammu Joseph and the Network of Women in Media, India (NWMI). The Bangalore study was conducted in partnership with Communication for Development and Learning (CDL) and Indian Institute of Journalism and New Media.
