India’s Northeast is fraught with multiple issues of contestations over space, resources and territory. Even before India’s Independence the Northeast has been in the margins of the British colonial regime. With increased reduction of civil space in the northeast, it has become more of a colony than a part of India. To people from the “Mainland India” the mainstream media informs them about the culture of violence that prevails. Misconceptions about the region and its peoples abound and oftentimes we see no connection between the other parts of India and the Northeast.
